Configure SQL Developer with MySQL
Do you know that we can use SQL Developer to connect to non-Oracle databases like MySQL too.
As a result this makes SQL developer a handy tool to use it as a multi-database GUI – meaning you can have a UI which is open against different database vendors.
Below are steps to configure SQL Developer with MySQL.
Go to Tools –> Preferences
Expand Database and click on Third Party JDBC Driver
Add Entry and select
C:\Stixs\ mysql-connector-java-5.1.15-bin.jar (the path where the MySQL connector jar is present)
Now in the SQL developer editor, open New Connection
In New / Select Database Connection window, you will find MySql tab where you can provide MySql database details to connect to.
Enter the Following details on selecting the MySQL tab.
- Connection Name
- Click on the Test button
- If the connection is established then we see Status: Success
Note: Below snapshot gives more details about the above numbering.
Now you can set up connections to Oracle and MySQL databases in the same SQL Developer GUI. It’s that simple!!!
